Have you heard of 花見 (hanami)? 花見 means “flower viewing” and it specifically refers to the act of viewing 桜 (sakura – cherry blossoms).

In Japan, during 春 (haru – Spring) Japanese people gather with their friends or family to do 花見 (hanami).

In the springtime, it is common to see many groups of people doing 花見 (hanami), enjoying their 弁当 (bentō – boxed lunch) and drinking 酒 (sake – alcohol) together under the trees.

リラックマ (Rilakkuma) & friends love Hanami too!

Traditionally, Japanese people eat 花見団子 (hanami dango) when they do 花見 (hanami).

甘くておいしいよ!(◕ω<)♥ It’s sweet and delicious!

It is also common to make or buy bentōs to bring and eat with friends and family while looking at the beautiful sakura!
